CVGSL COVID Protocols

Safety Measures for Castro Valley Girls Softball League

Castro Valley Girls Softball League (CVGSL) follows the required COVID protocols as established by the County of Alameda Public Health Department and the Castro Valley Unified School District.  As such, CVGSL policies and protocols can and likely will continue to evolve over the course of the season.  The current protocols are as follows:

1. Masks

a. Masks are optional outdoors for all CVGSL settings.

b. Players, parents, coaches, managers and staff are required to mask indoors, with exemptions per CDPH face mask guidance.

c. Persons exempted from wearing a face covering due to a medical condition, must wear a non-restrictive alternative, such as a face shield with a drape on the bottom edge, as long as their condition permits it.

d. Where a face covering cannot be used for pedagogical or developmental reasons, (e.g., communicating or assisting young children or those with special needs) a face shield with a drape (per CDPH guidelines) can be used instead of a face covering while in indoors as long as the wearer maintains physical distance from others.

2. Recommendations for staying home when sick and getting tested:

a. Follow the strategy for Staying Home when Sick and Getting Tested from the CDC.

b. Getting tested for COVID when symptoms are consistent with COVID will help with rapid contact tracing and prevent possible spread at schools.

c. Players, parents, coaches, managers and staff with symptoms of COVID-19 infection shall not to return any CVGSL activities or events until they have met the following CDPH criteria:

i. At least 24 hours have passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications; and

ii. Other symptoms have improved; and

iii. They have a negative test for SARS-CoV-2, OR a healthcare provider has provided documentation that the symptoms are typical of their underlying chronic condition (e.g., allergies or asthma) OR a healthcare provider has confirmed an alternative named diagnosis (e.g., Streptococcal pharyngitis, Coxsackie virus), OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset.

Please refer to the attached flowchart produced by the Castro Valley Unified School District for the protocols around testing, quarantine and return to CVGSL activities in the event a player, coach, manager, or staff member exhibits symptoms of COVID, is exposed to those with a positive case of COVID, or who tests positive for COVID.
