2022 Season Rating Day for Minor and Major Division Players

    CVGSL families,

We hope you all enjoyed a peaceful holiday season and are off to a good start in 2022.

We are excited to welcome your girls back to the softball field this year. The season is right around the corner, with Ratings Day being held this upcoming Saturday. Please read the following for the info you need:

When: Saturday, 22 January; times subject to change due to upcoming forecast

Minors: 10-11:30am (please arrive no later than 9:30 to register and warm up, we will begin promptly at the scheduled time)

Majors: 11:45am-12:45pm (please arrive no later than 11:15 to register and warm up, we will begin promptly at the scheduled time)

Where: Castro Valley High School Field #2 (park in Redwood Rd. lot, access field via walkway between north end of football stadium and tennis courts)

Who: All players registered for the Minors and Majors division (ages 9-10 and 11-13, respectively, on December, 31 2021)

What: players should come equipped with their cleats, glove, and softball attire; preferably all players bring their own helmet and bat as we have limited extra equipment available

Why: in the minor and major divisions, teams are formed by way of a player draft where coaching staffs select from the pool of registered players. Ultimately, the goal is to allow teams to be formed in the most balanced fashion possible to ensure competitive balance during the season. Ratings Day is intended to promote parity which is critical to providing a fun and enjoyable experience for all of our players.

Players will run through very basic drills to give coaching staffs the opportunity to evaluate players experience and skill level. While it can seem like an intimidating setting, coaches and staff work to make this as fun as possible especially given this is our first time back on the field in a while.

We are still in need a few more coaches in each division. Please consider volunteering to coach a team, without your help we don't have enough adult help to provide an enjoyable and productive season for the many girls who have registered. We also have coaches clinics and practice plans available to help any of you who might be worried about prior experience or the commitment. Please reach out to your respective Division Coordinator if you are willing to help out the community:

    Minors: Grant Brisbee at

    Majors: Jenessa Spade at

If you have any questions, please reach out to your Division Coordinator.

See you guys on the field Saturday, 22 January.

    Ricardo Arias
    2022 CVGSL President

    Registration Opens 01 November

Softball will be here before you know it, and CVGSL is excited to share details about the upcoming 2021 season! Registration opens November 1st, and CVGSL will be returning to a traditional season format, complete with teams, practices, games, a Tournament of Champions, and much more!

Here are some of the key details:

    • Registration opens November 1st, and there will be a $25 early-bird discount on registration fees until November 30th
    • Registration closes January 5th
    • Fees will be $225 for juniors and $275 for all other divisions, and this total includes a $50 volunteer fee, which would be refunded at the end of the season if volunteer hours are satisfied
    • There will be a 50% sibling discount. (i.e., if one player signs up for $275, her sibling’s fee would be $137.50 or $112.50, depending on the division)
    • Practices will start the first weekend in February
    • Opening Day will be March 12th, and closing ceremonies will be May 21st

In addition to the familiar format of practices and games, CVGSL is excited to announce that there we will offer even more opportunities for your girls to hone their softball skills. We will put on a monthly advanced skills clinic run by experienced coaches, similar to the format of the clinics that CVGSL hosted in the spring of 2021. We are also partnering with Major League Baseball to bring the Pitch, Hit & Run competition to Castro Valley for the first time, and you can find out more about this both at’s site, and by watching the finals of this year’s competition during Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night

CVGSL is also proud to announce that we will build up the Coaches’ Corner section of our website, with sample practice plans for each division, age-tailored drills, and direct links to instructional videos. This will help our volunteer coaches with the guidance and support they need to develop their teams and players.

Lastly, we would like to thank the volunteers and Castro Valley community for coming together and bringing the CVGSL board to full strength for the first time in years. We couldn’t do this without your help.

    Congratulations Synergy Softball!
